I wrote the first four chapters of this before the 9 PM episode aired, and I was going to discontinue it once it became AU, but I got so many reviews urging me to continue that I decided to give it a try.

In order for this to work, you have to ignore everything that happened after the 8 PM episode, but I have incorporated some of the plot from later episodes so I would hold off on reading this part until you’ve seen 11 PM (the other 4 parts are fine after you see 8 PM).

In this version, Audrey still hasn’t been officially cleared, and the reason she is being set up is different from what it was on the show…my reason will become more and more apparent as this goes on.

This part’s kind of short but I decided not to worry about posting it in show-length segments anymore. This part was ready so I figured I’d post it.

It takes place right where the last one left off…the last part was meant to be the 9 PM episode so I guess this is the beginning of my 10 PM.

“Sleeping With the Enemy”

Part Five

JACK (V.O.)

The following takes place between 10 P.M. and 11 P.M.

FADE IN:

INT. PRESIDENTIAL RETREAT

PRESIDENT CHARLES LOGAN is alone in a room. He glances around and closes the blinds before answering his phone.

LOGAN

(into phone, quietly)

What’s going on?

MILES (O.S.)

There’s a problem at CTU. Jack Bauer has taken Karen Hayes hostage to protect Audrey Raines.

LOGAN

Jesus Christ. Did you get her to confess to anything?

MILES

No, not yet. We haven’t been able to interrogate her because of Bauer, and unfortunately, there are too many people who refuse to believe that she was involved.

Logan sighs angrily.

LOGAN

You assured me that this would be handled!

MILES

Walt assured me that Jim wouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think any of us counted on Bauer taking Karen Hayes hostage to protect his little girlfriend.

LOGAN

So now what do we do? Jim knows too much…if we can’t use his daughter as leverage he’ll go public with the charges.

MILES

Mr. President, there is another option.

LOGAN

What’s that?

MILES

CTU just got word from Secret Service - Heller’s on his way to Los Angeles…he got on a plane as soon as he heard that his daughter was being held as a suspect.

LOGAN

So what are you suggesting?

MILES

I don’t think I need to spell that out for you, sir.

Logan shakes his head and waves his arms.

LOGAN

(emphatically)

No. Uh uh. Ab-so-lute-ly not.

MILES

Mr. President, I don’t think we have any other choice. If this gets out it will have devastating consequences for this country.

LOGAN

I am not going to authorize the assassination of the Secretary of Defense!

MILES

You don’t have to, sir. All you have to do is grant CTU the authority to monitor Secret Service channels. Henderson and his men will handle the rest.

CUT TO:

OUTSIDE THE ROOM

Unbeknownst to President Logan, MARTHA LOGAN is standing outside the room, looking both terrified and devastated as she ducks away.
